MODI started because I loved caps, but caps didn’t love me back.

For as long as I can remember, every time I put on a hat it came with the same problem: it would foul on my ears, push them out, or sit in a way that felt awkward and uncomfortable. I was never a fan of tucking my ears under the cap, so most of the time I’d either adjust it all day or just give up on wearing it.

After years of that same frustration, the question finally clicked:

“Why don’t I make a hat that fits around the ear, instead of over it?”

That’s where MODI began.

Designing around the ear, not against it

Rather than forcing my head – and my ears – to fit a standard cap, I started rethinking the shape itself.

The result is a 5–panel cap with a subtle arched side profile that follows the top of the ear.
It doesn’t crush, pinch, or flare the ears out. Instead, it creates space where caps normally cause pressure.

It sounds like a small tweak. In reality, it changes the whole experience of wearing a hat.

Solving more problems than I expected

What started as a fix for my own ears has turned into something bigger.

That arched cut-out has helped people:

Wear sunglasses and glasses more comfortably, without the cap fighting for space over the arms

Fit earmuffs and over-ear headphones more cleanly, especially for work, travel or gaming

Give people with sensory sensitivities an option that doesn’t feel overwhelming or tight around the ears

Make room for ear piercings, earrings and stretched lobes without constant rubbing

Sit more comfortably over hearing aids and similar devices

Reduce that “hot, squashed” feeling you get after hours in a standard cap

The feedback has been simple but powerful:
“It just feels better.”

MODI isn’t about being the loudest thing in the room. It’s about getting the details right so you don’t have to think about them.

From the arched ear profile to the internal taping, fabrics and fit, every part of the design is considered. The goal is simple: a cap you can wear all day, with clean lines, modern styling and real comfort.

Designed with intent, built for purpose isn’t just a tagline for us. It’s how every MODI piece is created.
